All About Pragyaparomita
Pragyaparomita is a mixed media artist based out of Mumbai, India. Her medium of choice are oil paints on canvas and ink on paper. Her practice includes the juxtaposition of grayscale subjects against abstract colorful backgrounds inspired by nature. She draws inspiration from the rich stories of people, personal experiences and the fluidity of nature. She works with different mediums such as oil paints, acrylic paints, charcoal and ink and tries to capture the contrast between human emotions and the complexities of the world they inhabit. Her work depicts dynamic flows and emotions and strives to blend realism with abstract narratives. Through her art, she tries to explore the themes of identity and connection, often borrowing from her personal experiences and emotions. The fluidity of the abstract backgrounds represent change and continuity whereas her grayscale figures explore the intensity of the human experience. Her creative process, which often begins with spontaneous sketches drawn from personal observations and reflections, is intuitive and meditative. During this creative process, she allows herself to explore her emotions by allowing the artwork to develop organically, thereby, intertwining her personal narrative into the artwork. Through the interplay of stark and vibrant elements, she aims to invite viewers into a space of introspection, encouraging them to explore their own emotional landscape and establish a connection with the artwork.
Other than art, Romita is also a published author and has published her first book of poems titled "Cacophonic Contemplations". She continues to talk about her creative process and other things creative on her blog as well.
Prior to pursuing art, she worked in the Financial Services across Investment Banking, Private Equity and Venture Capital. She has a Bachelors in Engineering from BITS Pilani, Goa Campus and a Masters in Financial Economics from the University of Oxford
